Our Commitment
Council Compass is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.
As a company serving UK local authorities, we understand the importance of accessible public services and hold ourselves to the same high standards.
Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.
The four principles of WCAG are:
- Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
- Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable
- Understandable: Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable
- Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies

- Consistent navigation structure throughout the site
- Skip-to-content links for keyboard users
- Logical heading hierarchy
- Descriptive link text
Visual Design
- Sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds (minimum 4.5:1 ratio)
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality
- No content relies solely on colour to convey meaning
- Responsive design that works across different screen sizes
Forms
- All form fields have associated labels
- Error messages are clear and descriptive
- Required fields are clearly indicated
- Form validation provides helpful feedback
Keyboard Accessibility
- All interactive elements are keyboard accessible
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements
- Logical tab order throughout the site
Assistive Technologies
This website is designed to be compatible with:
- Screen readers (including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver)
- Screen magnification software

Known Issues
We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are working to resolve them:
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these.
